Re: Sampling weird food
I don't think I would have a problem eating a few fried insects, but when it comes to scorpions for something bigger, I think I would have to draw the line. I have lived this long without eating a scorpion and I think I can continue to live without consuming one. It is just one of the things I will ...

Re: Thailand Health care
It is good to know they have quality health care available. I have to say I envy countries in which the health care system works, as everyone knows we have our struggles with this in the United States. I guess as long as you have the required status you would be in good hands with the Thai medical s...

Re: How about an elephant ride?
I actually rode an elephant once stateside, when my son was young. We both rode on it, and it was fun. It seems like you are so high up. It is completely a different experience than riding a horse or other animal of that type. I would do it again it Thailand. It would seem much more authentic. It wo...

Re: Cheapest and safest mode of transport
I think as a complete newbie to the area I would want to take the taxis. I think I would feel a little intimidated trying to use the bus and other than a short distance, I don't think I would feel comfortable using a tuk-tuk. I think that taking advantage of local taxis would be the best thing to do...

Re: The temples for a cultural experience
I think it would be pretty fascinating to visit the temples. They would be so incredibly different from what we experience in the West. I did see some Buddhist shrines in Hawaii, but actually visiting the temple and finding out more of the history of Buddhism would be incredibly interesting. I see i...

Re: Our experience in the floating market
I think the floating market sounds like great fun. That is something I will put on my list should I get to Thailand some day. I think it sounds exciting and unique and something I would enjoy if I was there. I am wondering if this market is just in one city or if all cities in Thailand have this as ...

Re: Differences between Thailand and USA
That is interesting to note, however, the US is such a big country that you can't paint all areas with the same brush. Some communities are warm and welcoming whereas others are more uptight and controlled. Things are much different in the big cities then in other parts of the country. I do think th...

Re: Is nightlife allowed for a serious teacher?
I think everything in moderation. It is important to make sure that you get your work done during the day to a high professional standard. Once you have that done, then your time is presumably your own, just don't do anything embarrassing, and you should be fine I think.

Re: Best hotel to lodge in Thailand
I think comparing them online via Trip Advisor, Hotels.com or some other option would be your best bet. There are lots of hotels that would probably fit your needs, but finding the best one for your particular situation may be the way to go. It is just one of the ways to make sure you get what you a...

Re: Favourite beach in South East Asia
I have heard the beaches in the Phlilipines are great. I know that Phuket in Thailand was beautiful. I imagine since the Tsunami they have been restored. I haven't heard any information about how they are now. I imagine they are gorgeous and tourist friendly once again. There is nothing quite like a...
