Re: The Hiring of the Unqualified

When you say hiring of unqualified, are you referring to teachers who don't have masters degrees? Is that a requirement in South Korean schools? In the university where I'm teaching, masters degree is preferred but not initially required. Instructors without any masters degrees are given 3 years to...

Re: Geography of Thailand

That is interesting. I didn't know that they were connected at all. I guess I am going to have to have a solid look at a map of South East Asia. Thanks for responding. It is always good to get a message! I have heard of the Humong mountain people but don't think they are in Thailand. I don't think ...

Pampered Foreigners and Ridiculous Complaints

On the comedy Cabin Boy, it tells the tale of a little rich prep-school brat who gets on the wrong ship and is surrounded by really dirty low-life sailors who absolutely - will not bow down to him, and in fact, pick on him. :D Anyway, I see many similarities to this movie and foreigners who complain...

Re: smart ways to deal with rude people!

I would try to ignore rude people as much as possible. Nonetheless, though, it's often difficult to escape them. In that case, you would have to take a stand somehow. However, you have to determine which response is the wisest given the situation.

The Theme

I'm not trying to be a judgemental person and I realize many people do like the default theme - and there is nothing wrong with that. Nonetheless, there are many free themes at the phpBB site. Also, there are quite a number of mind-blowing themes that are premium (not located at the phpBB website). ...

Racist Reactions of People Back Home

A traveler to Asia is sometimes met with hate back home. Anyway, the there could be many motives like just plain and simple racism, jealousy, and some sort of projection. So should this stuff be ignored? Note it can be quite vicious. In fact, I was shocked about how racist people are in my home area...

The Hiring of the Unqualified

This problem has caused a load of problems in South Korea and the schools would not make up for the deficit with training. I mean, at least if they're going to hire amateurs, then serious training should be in order. However, though, it isn't the case and the result is a disaster beyond belief. For ...

Discrimination Against the Disabled, Overweight, and Non-Caucasians

This seems to be the case in South Korea, Japan, and other places. Anyhow, does anyone feel that, given this situation, it's immoral to accept jobs in Asia? I mean, the reason given for this discrimination is often very shallow. For instance, a person could have only a mild disability or be slightly...

Preference for Canadian Teachers

During the Bush years, things were tough for American teachers to cause many people, especially in South Korea, had enough of them. Also, adding insult to injury people would laugh at your complaints saying, "We should have hired a Canadian.". ;) That remark was so annoying and also the fa...

Co-teachers with a Grudge

Some teachers have an ax to grind. Well, in one example, a certain teacher is desired less because the schools don't like his accent, preferring North American teachers. In that case, he would practice passive aggression against a North American co-teacher - even though it's the native people doing ...
