Re: Getting the Students to Talk
I remembered having an English teacher who made the whole class want to participate by offering some items as rewards. We were split into groups and we had to do some sort of presentation involving all students. That was the first time I saw some shy kids in the class open up and participate.

Re: Manchester United FC Fans Hangout
I love going to the sports bar to watch the games live when possible. We looked good against West Ham in the last outing.
I am hoping for one or two more signings so we can mount a serious attempt on the Champions League.

Re: Personal safety in Thailand
I think you need to be cautious in any country you are in. It doesn't matter where you are, there are always going to be "bad people" that are going to want to take advantage of you in any way. So I agree common sense is the master key to avoid getting robbed or attack in your country or ...

Re: Tuk- Tuks like them or not?
I am impartial to the experience. I guess that one must try it at least once when they travel to Thailand. Avoid taking a tuk-tuk during peak hours
as you want to avoid breathing in the fumes from engines all around you.

Re: Goods and Services Tax (GST)
I would say it varies from country to country. GST does not lead to stability. Having foreign investors does not necessarily lead to creating jobs for local people. Some of these jobs will most likely mean an influx of foreign workers.

Re: Singapore scholarships
The top Singapore universities (NTU and NUS) do offer scholarships. It is under the Office of Financial Aid. However, the competition is stiff since you are not guaranteed to get it even with good grades alone. Having excellent co-curricular records and achievements would go far to help you get sele...

Re: Keeping myself safe
I guess it is always better to be accompanied by a group of friends. I mean it does not matter if you are male or female as you are at risk to be targeted by syndicates or some people with bad intentions. Always make a point to let people know where you are heading.Years ago, one of my father's frie...

Re: Problems with Living in Vietnam
As someone who lived in Singapore for quite a long period of time. I am fine with them spying since the crime rates were really low there. I felt safe and secure all the time when I was studying and working there. Having such surveillance technology does protect the citizens from online crimes too.

Re: How do you deal with talkative students?
I would ask the student who talks to go in front and be my partner to demonstrate languages. After using this trick one, most of my students did not dare to talk as they did not want to be demonstrating since they are easily embarrassed.

Re: Street market is a haven for shoppers
I always go to street market with my local friends. Some stalls will try to mark up prices to unreasonable heights. Thanks to my friend, I did not get scammed into paying high amounts of money. It helps if you understand some Thai language too.
