Re: What's the youngest group of students you've taught?

I had always taught to young people. I had never had a really old group in the past. My youngest has been between 10 and 12 and the oldest between 16 to 17. I have to say I rather the younger ones, they are easier to manage and learn faster in my opinion. They are a bit messy but working with younger...

Re: What did teaching teach you?

As many of other fellow teachers commented in the past, the main thing that teaching taught me was to be patient and comprehensive!, especially with the teenager because the smaller ones tend to learn quicker than they do. It also teached me to be prepare for anything, really, this kids come up with...

Re: Teacher's Pet

I think it’s inevitable having a favorite in class after all we are only humans and we can’t avoid liking some kids better than others especially if they are good in the subject you teach! But I wouldn't call them "teacher's pet" I found it degrading for the kid. Also I think it’s importan...

Re: How do you deal with talkative students?

I think most of the talkative students are extroverts. And keeping them busy in some sort of activity is a good thing. You can form some sort of class session tasks and get them engaged into it. It works for English subject for other subjects you may have to be more creative for how to keep them en...

Re: How far is your workplace(school) from your home?

I used to teach English in this small school with very little population really far away from my place. It was a trip of 2 hours at least. There was enough transport but the trip was getting really tiring to make every day so I eventually -after the school year ended- gave up the position... Those k...

Re: Overcoming culture shock

I agree when you said adapting to the new food- especially really spicy  food as in Thailand- is one the biggest challenges along with not knowing the language or at least a few words. But I think eventually we all end up adapting. Sometimes I'm a bit afraid I would disrespect them somehow and...

Re: smart ways to deal with rude people!

Some would say the best way to deal with a rude person is to walk away. This is not true in some cases. Sometimes, a rude individual have no clue they are being rude. And oftentimes, the best way to deal with them is to tell them right away they are rude. Especially if you are in a country where th...

Re: How to deal with bullies

In the past I used to be bullied too and I ended it by confronting the problem. They stoped bothering and I felt better with myself after that... This happened to me too and I can tell you, I did all the things @Pink_Turtle said and none worked. Since I was being bullied by a single person, I ended...

Re: How to deal with bullies

These are great tips but I also think the best thing to do in to confront the problem and end it once and for all. You can do it by yourself but it's safer if you go with an adult or an authority person, after all you don't know how the bully is going to react. In the past I used to be bullied too a...
