Preference for Canadian Teachers

Post by jyy »

During the Bush years, things were tough for American teachers to cause many people, especially in South Korea, had enough of them. Also, adding insult to injury people would laugh at your complaints saying, "We should have hired a Canadian.". ;) That remark was so annoying and also the fact that Canadians were a little bit fond of "rubbing it in.". :x Everywhere you went you would see Canadian emblems on all their clothes etc.. while Americans could not be proud of who they were.

Anyway, this rant seems childish, but I'm just being honest here. :D

This happens all around the world. For instance, Spanish academies in Japan prefer to hire Spanish teachers instead of South American ones (and they don't really care about the accent or anything). In Europe, they prefer British teachers instead of Americans, and so on. I guess it has something to do with stereotypes. All nationalities have some kind of reputation.
