Knowing one's native language as always been a plus.It most times depicit one's nationality or root.

One can take advantage of this language even on a strange land.So it pertinent we know our local language.

Everywhere that I know of, there doesn't seem to be a local language requirement. Anyway, possibly one reason is that it would lower a number of people available. I mean, they have a tough time finding people as it is.

Well it is not totally mandatory for as long as you know how to speak english, youll survive. But if you want to be an effective teacher you'll have to at least learn some basics for better communication on your students. Actually even if you are not a teacher, going in a foreign country is very hard if you didnt at least prepare yourself to learn about their culture or native language before going to a foreign country.

Not really depending on the number of days you gonna stay in certain place. Hotels offer alot of arrangements and translator for your convenience. If you're planning to stay there for good or months maybe you have to learn atleast the basic for communication.
